PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are powerful. You are complete. You are all we need. When the world tries to tear at us and make us question what’s truly most important, remind us of Your love and grace. We worship You! We love You, Jesus. Amen.

LYRICS

THERE IS POWER

VERSE 1
Where two or more are gathered in His name
He is there oh
For all who come who run to Him in faith
He is there

CHORUS
There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power power in His name
There is power in the name of Jesus
There is power power in His name

VERSE 2
No fear no lie can stand against us now
He is here whoa
The Word has come to silence ev’ry doubt
He is here

BRIDGE
One name one name can save
One name breaks ev’ry chain
One name always one name Jesus
One name one name remains
One name we will proclaim
One name always one name

ENDING
Oh there’s power in His name
Oh there’s power in His name

A THOUGHT & SCRIPTURE

You’re probably wondering about the title of this blog. This isn’t a bait-and-switch. When I first heard this song, it reminded me of a story about my life as a little kid.

Our house growing up had two floors and a basement. For those of you in the South without basements, they’re really cool. I mean, literally, cool. Plus they give you all this extra room! I digress.

My room was on the second floor and everyone else slept on the first floor. My room was at the end of the hall and I had to walk down the creaky wood floors, pass a creepy closet, turn the corner and finally arrive at the bathroom. In the middle of the night without light, that was not fun. To make it worse, the light switch for the hall was way down by the creepy closet, so I couldn’t turn it on before I made my dash.

The clincher was the closet door. I could make it to the bathroom if the double doors were closed. There was something about having the doors open to the blackness inside that scared me to my bones. I wouldn’t dare walk past it if the doors were open. It was a rough night when my bladder was about to explode and I had forgotten to close the doors before I went to bed. #facepalm

I talked to my dad about it at some point and he replied, “Well, have you prayed about your fear?” As a kid, I remember rolling my eyes and and thinking, “Yeah, yeah, that’s a good idea. I know, I know. I should pray about it. Everything to God in prayer.” I’m a pastor’s kid and I knew the words, but it hadn’t really been applied or made real to me yet.

Yet.

Then he hit me with it. Something that has stuck with this boy for years. “Did you know you have a weapon?” He had me. Locked and loaded. “WHAT!?!? What kind of weapon??”

My dad explained that Satan wants us to be afraid. He wants us scared and running and forgetting about the power of God. My dad reminded me that Jesus had defeated Satan by dying on the cross and rising again on Easter morning and now just the power of his NAME – JESUS – is enough to send Satan and his minions running for the hills. Jesus’ name is a sword and powerful weapon against the enemy who would try to cut us down and make us question our peace and safety in our loving God.

Jesus is always with us. There is power in His name. Just call on Him. In the car, at home, in the dark, when you don’t know what to do, when you’re questioning your next step, when you feel alone or anytime Satan is trying to deny you the hope found in Jesus.

Swing your sword carrying His name, Jesus. Help me Jesus. JESUS. JESUS! There is power in Your name!

John 14:14 (Jesus said) You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Psalm 89:24 (God said) My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.

Mark 16:17-18 (Jesus said) And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

John 16:23 (Jesus said) Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

When we pray for protection and healing, sometimes that comes in the form of being called home to our eternal home in Heaven, where the protection and healing are full and complete for eternity. Other times, we find the exact care we need right here where we are. Either way, God’s powerful name has saved us and kept us close to Him. We can thank Him, in all circumstances, for the power of His Name.

Let’s not forget the powerful weapon we have at our sides. Jesus.

VIDEO – Sing, pray, listen and let God speak to your heart.

PRAYER

Jesus, you are our unstoppable power and weapon that we can call upon day or night. 24/7/365 You never leave us. You always want us. Fill us with Your Spirit and may Your name be ever on our lips. We praise You and cherish You! Amen.
