PRAYER
God, You are the King of Kings. You are the Lord of Lords. Your reign and power are unstoppable and magnificent. You have conquered sin, death and Satan. Help us to trust in Your unshakeable, unchangeable nature when the world around us seems to sway and crumble. Remind us that we are strong with You, we persevere only with You, and that You go before us into the world like a roaring lion. Thank you for never leaving us. Thank you clothing us with the power of Your holy name, Jesus. Amen.
LYRICS
Verse 1
When my hope and strength is gone You’re the One who calls me on
You are the life You are the fight that’s in my soul
Verse 2
Oh Your resurrection pow’r Burns like fire in my heart
When waters rise I lift my eyes up to Your throne
Chorus 1
We are more than conquerors through Christ
You have overcome this world this life
We will not bow to sin or to shame
We are defiant in Your name
You are the fire that cannot be tamed
You are the power in our veins
Our Lord our God our conqueror
Verse 3
I will sing into the night Christ is risen and on high
Greater is He living in me than in the world
Verse 4
No surrender no retreat We are free and we’re redeemed
We will declare Over despair You are the hope
Bridge
Nothing is impossible Ev’ry chain is breakable
With You we are victorious
You are stronger than our hearts You are greater than the dark
With You we are victorious
A THOUGHT & SCRIPTURE
In a world (and especially a country – the U.S.) that puts so much emphasis on self-preservation, manifest destiny and bootstrapping entrepreneurialism, it can be hard to let go and realize (or remember) that we’re not in control. Just writing that, made me even shake a bit. I identify with those previously mentioned traits and I think they can be good, but with a very strong redirection: they are only possible through the strength and power of our creator living within us.
The song starts out with the truest statement we all need to hold onto: our strength will wane.
When my hope and strength is gone You’re the One who calls me on.
Jesus is our strength. He is our hope. When we see no way out, HE calls us on. I love knowing that my God will not give up on me. Ever. No matter what I do. I can always return to Him.
Isaiah 41:10 says, For do not fear, for I (God) am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
I love thinking about my God in the form of Jesus, who loves the children and cares for us with a tender hand, because that’s a true aspect of His personality and it’s beautiful. But, there are times in our lives when things are tough and we’re against a stronghold of temptation like porn or the potential loss of a marriage or our children are uncontrollable or our work environment is toxic. In those times, we need to remember the conquering, powerful side of Jesus.
Consider some of these descriptive lyrics found in the chorus of this song – they’re perfect.
more than conquerors
overcome
will not bow
defiant
cannot be tamed
power
When we are in despair and all seems lost, verse 4 hits it straight on: we don’t lean on our own might, bootstrapping ability or perseverance. Our first step is to declare over despair You are the hope! What do we declare? If you’re in a tough situation right now, pray the words of this chorus. Shout it! Seriously. If you don’t want to do it in front of others, wait until the family is gone or yell it from the rooftop!
When we despair, we are forgetting and leaving behind the conquering power of God to work miracles in our lives. Yet, He’s already told us He won’t leave us. He is our hope! With His power, WE are conquerors!
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:37-39, No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Nothing is impossible for our God. The creator of the universe. Our Savior. Our friend. Our mighty King of Kings. You can come to Him with anything.
VIDEO – Sing, pray, listen and let God speak to your heart.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, You are the fire in our veins. You are the light shining through the dark. You are our prince of peace, conquering our despair and giving us hope. Let us not forget. Nothing is impossible for You, our rock, our Redeemer. Our love. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
