I have no idea why my brain does the things it does…but if it had a lid and you looked inside, you might laugh, shake your head or just be frightened by the obsurdity.
Yesterday I was rehearsing with one of worship guitarists at my house and we were talking about Christmas music. I was telling him that I was excited to play “Here is Our King” by David Crowder during Advent season. (a time to prepare our hearts for the coming Savior- who has already come, but is coming again- I know, it can be confusing, we’ll tackle that later) We were talking about how crazy it must have been to be a shepherd and realizing that the prophecies are coming true. That’s HUGE! I mean bigger than HUGE! Luke 2:11-12 “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Whoa! They went to see Jesus and afterward it says, 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. (Luke 2:17-18)
Now here is where my brain took a sharp right turn…
What if Jesus came THIS Christmas to California as a baby and the “shepherds” had iPhones and viral Twitter accounts while “King Herod” took control of the NSA and Google?
Note: I’m not calling Obama King Herod and I purposefully didn’t pick another “people group” to be shepherds, because shepherds were pretty dirty, low people.
The crazy thing is that, despite their low place in society, scripture says that people were “amazed” at what they said. I don’t think it was their mastery of oration, money, political clout or $500 sandals that made people believe. God gave them the skills and opened the hearts of people.
Back to my craziness…
Can you see the “shepherds” walking back and Tweeting like mad? Blogging? Facebooking? Uploading Youtube vids?
All the while, Herod is sitting in his high-tech tower of numerous 50″ monitors and more processing power than Google on steriods…
What does God do? He can’t just have them go out the back door and ride a donkey to Mexico…Okay, I know, I cannot limit God, because He could totally do that and foil anything to protect His Son.
I just think it’d be sweet if the angel came to Joseph and said, “There is a Stealth Jet waiting at a private airfield 15 minutes from here and will take you to an unmarked cottage in the New Zealand wilderness. You, Mary and the child will be safe there.”
There would be some definite 24 hour news coverage too…
Just one of the many random things that pop into my head throughout the day, this one I wrote down.
Your thoughts on Jesus born in 2010?
