This is a space where I can play with new adventures and ideas. I’ll get on a kick and do a little experiment or go through a season of posts. As of 2024, I don’t write on here much right now, but feel free to subscribe and catch the next potential series or wander through the old catalogue of thoughts.

PRESENCE

It’s a word that has meant more and more to me through the years. My Heavenly Father’s presence and joyful face smiling upon me is my favorite place to be. To close my eyes, breathe and see His face. It’s literally the best. Those regular experiences through ancient and modern spiritual practices have taught me how to seek His presence and then to bring it to others. My wife and I embarked upon a project during COVID 2020 to share these practices through a daily Facebook LIVE on Contending Patterns. We are not currently still going live, but there are hundreds of videos to check out and watch anytime. Let’s slow down and present with God and one another.

ABOUT ME

My name is Seth Gehrke and I grew up in Minnesota, but with deep family roots in Texas. I married a native Texan, we had two boys while living in California, and we now reside in the Houston, TX area.

My wife calls me a passionate person. I can quickly get very excited about a lot of different things. This site will hopefully give me a chance to wrangle the biggest ones into one place.

I am a follower of Christ, husband and father. .

My interest in people may have possibly led you here. Maybe we talked about music, education, worship, Jesus, cooking, theology, smoking meats, vision strategy, politics, jamming, DMB, branding, Apple or maybe how very small rocks really could float in the water. We may also have just met randomly on an airplane and you’d like to continue chatting about that “change the world” idea you told me about. I know I would. Feel free to drop me a line anytime.

A perfect day might be filled by thinking, creating, innovating and sharing new ideas among a group of other passionate dreamers.So when I ask things like … “What makes you tick?” “What’s your THING?” “What gets your gears moving?” I’m just as excited to hear about it as you are to share it. Maybe in in the midst of that idea whirlwind, insights will be gleaned and something new in each of us will emerge. And really, what’s more exciting than that?

Currently, I get to ask a lot of questions and get asked plenty as well! I am currently the Vicar and Lead Minister at St. John Lutheran Church & School in Cypress, TX. We have an awesome team and fantastic church family here. It’s wonderful to be living out God’s ministry everyday. It’s definitely a blast! I am extremely blessed.

When I’m not at work I’m enjoying life with my lovely wife, Emily, and our boys, Will & Gus. Emily shows me so much support, care, encouragement and love that I don’t know what to do with it. She listens to my crazy ideas and lets me dream big dreams. It’s amazing the adventures we’ve been on and I know there are plenty to come! She spends her days homeschooling our boys while running her own business, Orange Verb Design. Her clients are all across the field as well as the country.
